FAQs

What oil do I use with my chainsaw?
Our units use a standard bar and chain oil. You can purchase this from your local hardware store; no specific brand name is required
Why is my chainsaw leaking oil?
All chainsaws will slowly “leak” oil in storage (mostly from it seeping off the chain). To prevent excessive leakage, store with as little oil left in the reservoir as possible, lay the chainsaw flat with a rag beneath it and the pole saw upright with the motor head at the top. During first use, operators should only fill the reservoir to roughly half full and check periodically to see if it needs to be refilled. Eventually, you will become accustomed to the amount of oil required for each job. This procedure will make it easier to store the unit as oil free as possible and reduce oil run off.
How large of a branch/log can I cut?
If you are looking to cut logs with one pass, the log needs to be about 2" smaller than the bar. However, there are many techniques to use a chainsaw for larger cuts.
What is the run time?
The run time of a chainsaw is measured in cuts per charge. The number of cuts per charge or “run time” that you receive would depend on the load acting on the saw (i.e., the thickness and type of wood being cut) as the chainsaw would use more battery power on tougher and thick objects being cut.
How do I know if my chain is tensioned enough?
Chains should be tensioned before use. Check intermittently throughout each chore to make sure the chain is kept properly tensioned. A correctly tensioned chain should only pull away from the bar enough to fit a dime between the teeth and the bar. ***DO NOT TENSION A CHAIN AFTER YOU HAVE FINSHED USING THE TOOL. HOT METAL EXPANDS. IF THE CHAIN NEEDS TENSIONED WHEN HOT, THEN ALLOW TO COOL, THE CONTRACTING METAL COULD POTENTIALLY DAMAGE THE CHAIN, THE BAR AND EVEN THE UNIT. WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT USE (OR AT LEAST UNTIL COOLED) BEFORE TENSIONING***
Can I use another brand of chain?
Yes, however, it must match the specifications of the original chain (gauge, pitch, and drive links). These specifications my be found inside of your owner’s manual.
What file size do I use to sharpen the chain?
Our chains may be sharpened using a 5/32” round file.
Why isn’t my chain cutting?
If the wood is burning/smoking, this indicates that the chain is on backwards. Another reason could be that the chain is dull and needs to be sharpened or replaced. Replace the chain if: • The length of the cutting edges is less than 5 mm. • There is too much space between the drive links and the rivets. • The cut speed is slow • Sharpening the chain many times but it does not increase the cutting speed.
Why does my chain keep falling off?
Chainsaw chains can come off due to multiple reasons such as worn-down bars, worn-down sprockets, and wrongly set chain tension. Please check the chain tension and condition of all parts prior to using. If anything is worn or damaged, replace parts before using again. Replace the bar if: • the groove is not fit with the height of the drive links (which must never touch the bottom). • the inside of the guide bar is worn and make the chain lean to one side.

This 80V battery-powered chainsaw delivers powerful performance comparable to gas saws, with customers praising its ease of use, quiet operation, and no pull-start convenience. It handles trees up to 18" effectively with good battery life. However, some customers reported chain retention issues, defective switches in newer models, and missing parts/accessories upon delivery.

Defective product

Defective product. The on switch has stopped working the same as in the other product review.

Avoid: defective design or manufacture.

I have owned an earlier version of this chainsaw for several years and would give it five stars. It has been excellent in every respect. But I bought another newer version (one of the differences is that it lacks an on button starting directly from the trigger.) It failed within weeks of light use refusing to start as if the brake bar was on which was not the case. I was sent a replacement. This also failed similarly within weeks of light use. I contacted Greenworks and was sent another replacement. This similarly has failed. There is clearly a design or manufacture problem; there is no point my receiving another replacement. This is a great pity as the original machine continues to exceed my expectations continuing to work well after several years of quite heavy use. I hope Greenworks solves this problem but until then should withdraw this product.

80V 18" chainsaw - love it!

I'm a city boy turned country boy; and now I take care of a few acres of land we bought.

After using this thing a while, it has done exactly what I've needed of it, and I've slowly learned to be more confident with it as a tool.

I love the power-weight when a 4Ah battery is in it, though the 5Ah does seem to perform better IMO. I have had zero issues with it, and it's done its job remarkably well. I recently bought a small, handheld saw to go with this to make it easier/safer after taking down a tree/branch, and processing the smaller bits. Having this chainsaw is great for processing the wood, but sometimes having something small, the size of a drill, just works better, faster, and feels safer. When it's a bit further, out of reach, up high, then the pole saw is just amazing.

If you're buying this, I've had mine a few seasons, and the bar still seems "perfect". After any bigger jobs, I always go back and touch up the chain. I highly recommend Stihl (or knock off) hand sharpener tool that takes care of both the gullet and the raker. I mean, you can do both manually, separately, but having the two in the same tool to help keep them in reasonable balance of each other seems to make sense to me.

I've never needed to cut down anything that required more than the 18", though I did have to process a large tree that washed up on the beach once, but usually it's something less than the 18" I have to work with with this saw.

Like a Hot Sword Through Butter!

Prior to purchasing this chainsaw I had borrowed a Greenworks trimmer from a neighbor as my old one had finally bit the dust. I was apprehensive with using battery-powered yard tools but upon using the trimmer I was instantly sold. I dropped it back off thanked my neighbor and promptly purchased the trimmer.Shortly after ordering the trimmer I decided to order the chainsaw as I have wanted one but hadn't previously purchased one. I don't really have a need for a chainsaw on a regular basis but there are times when these old trees fall in our neighborhood and I feel useless because I can't help move them from the streets. No more. Since purchasing the chainsaw I eagerly awaited the chance to use it. Lo and behold I was given that chance a few weeks back after a gnarly windstorm knocked down and old tree behind a couple of our houses.I promptly chugged my coffee and got to work. Using the chainsaw to trim the tree was like cutting through butter with a knife made of lava. It was dreamy. It was perfect. And oh so quiet!I am sold on Greenworks. These tools are rad and I will be recommended them to everyone forever.

Trail Clearing Gem!

Used the 80v chainsaw to clear 2 miles of trail - 30 trees from 3-22 It worked great! With the batteries in my pack the empty saw weighed less than half what my Stihl weighs and it's quieter and easier to start and stop.

Nice Chainsaw

The chainsaw worked great right out of the box so I headed out to our forest to take down a dead fir tree. Needed to adjust the chain tension but that was simple to do.

Solid tool when chain stays on track

I bought this tool about 2 months ago to take down a tree in the yard. The power is strong and the battery lasted a long time. What's frustrating is the chain. It falls off constantly especially when using at an angle. The process to replace the chain is simple but costs you 5-10 minutes each time. Chain should not come off this frequently.

Excellent product!

Excellent power and it feels very solid built. Very easy to maintain so far. I moved from 40 V to 80 V and the change worked very well for me. The cutting speed is also great.

Very powerful

Very powerful chainsaw for it's weigh and size. Much better than gas powered chainsaws in its class.

Amazing!

It meet my expectations and more. Works just as good as a gas saw and the batter last for a very long time at last 45 min to hr of cutting continuous.

Great chainsaw

I quite like this chainsaw especially as it is not gas driven. The chain did come off rather early in my usage of it but the hardware store fixed it quickly. I also like that the batteries that power my Greenworks mower also power this chainsaw. What can be better!

Pretty good

Just used it for the first time today. I cut down a branch the size of my outstretched hand with ease. Pretty happy with the product. Have used Husky products in the past but shifted over to full electric

Awful Company Support

I purchased the chainsaw directly from the company. It was clearly a customer return item that had been thrown back into the box with being repackaged or tested. It was missing a part. I tried to contact the company but could never get through on the customer service line nor was there a valid email address to use for a complaint. I would never buy directly from the company website again. If anything goes wrong I know I am out of luck.

Can't keep chain on bar !!

I like the power the quick start stop operation . I like the ease of the battery power no messing with two cycle engine . But after a half hour of operation the chain pops off the bar from cutting branches even if the correct tension is on the chain !! I've cut down an estimated 200 trees every year for the past 20 years so I'm experienced at operating a chainsaw but keeping the chain on the bar is very difficult with this saw !!

Never received the order and no one answers the phone

Ordered Pro 80V 18 Brushless Chainsaw (Tool Only) on 4/2/22. But never received the order. The status says Your order has been received and will be sent out shortly. Your credit card was authorized. Tried to call the customer support phone number multiple times and was always put on hold for over 45 minutes and then disconnected.

Handy but some flaws

Handy for stop and go work but some flaws. Despite tightening chain jumps more easily than on my gas saw (which never jumps) - mainly when cutting small diameter branches (<1 inch). Wrench was not included. Oil cap has two parts and outer part keeps falling off.

Works Great

Plenty of power to cut through a ten inch diameter oak tree that came down in a recent storm. Made short work of cutting the trunk into 15 logs to be split later.

Needed changes to chainsaw

Good improvements over previous model. Feels more sturdy on/off switch helps and easier to open oil cap.

Powerful and easy to operate

I have a 40V Chainsaw of another brand but wants to utilize my 80V battery collection from my Lawnmower/weedwhacker. This thing has a lot of power and it very maneuverable considering it is 4' longer than my other saw.
