FAQs

How should I store and care for my Greenworks battery to ensure the best performance and longest lifespan?
We want you to get the most out of your tools, and that starts with understanding how to care for your battery. Proper storage and handling not only extend battery life but also ensure your tools are ready to perform when you need them most. A Quick Note on Lithium-Ion Battery Performance All Greenworks batteries use lithium-ion technology, which offers powerful, consistent performance without the memory effect found in older battery types. However, lithium-ion batteries are sensitive to temperature extremes—both heat and cold can affect performance and longevity. That’s why proper storage and care are essential for keeping your battery in peak condition. Best Practices for Battery Storage and Use: Store batteries indoors in a cool, dry location—away from direct sunlight, humidity, or extreme temperatures. This protects internal components and preserves performance. Only connect the battery to the charger when actively charging. When not in use, unplug the charger and keep the battery disconnected. If storing for an extended period, charge the battery fully before putting it away. Check the charge every couple of months. If it drops, recharge it before returning it to storage. This helps maintain battery health over time. Allow the battery to reach a safe operating temperature before use. For snow throwers and cold-weather operation, cold batteries may not power on. Let the battery warm to room temperature indoors before inserting it into the tool. Kindly note: Once the battery is at room temperature and installed, the current generated while the tool is running will help keep the battery warm. As long as the battery starts at room temperature, you should not experience issues even when working in cold outdoor conditions. For other tools/hot weather operation, if the battery has become hot from use or charging, allow it to cool before reinstalling. Indoor storage helps avoid performance issues related to both hot and cold environments and keeps your battery protected year-round.
Can I leave my battery in the charger after charging it?
The battery chargers do have auto cut offs to prevent it from over charging. However, we do advise customers to remove the battery from the charger after it has been fully charged and to also unplug the charger from the outlet, as this is good electrical safety practice to do so. This will also help to prevent false defect readings and allows the charger to reset itself each time it’s used to charge a battery.
Why do batteries cost so much more than the tool?
The battery is the most important component for a battery-operated unit. Please be assured we price our batteries with the cost of material, manufacturing, and current market pricing in mind. Batteries are the costliest items to manufacture and ship in any kit. Full kits including a tool, battery, and charger are priced affordably so that consumers can begin building that line of tools and move forward purchasing tool-only units. When you purchase batteries on their own, it is more notable the cost that they carry.
How do I store the battery? Can I leave the battery in the garage or shed?
When the battery is not in use, we suggest storing it indoors, in a cool dry area - away from direct sunlight. Leave the charger unplugged and the battery disconnected from the charger unless it needs charging. It is recommended to store the battery with a full charge, and if it is being stored for a period where no use is expected, to check on the charge every couple of months. If you notice the charge has dropped, we advise charging the battery back up to full before returning it to its safe storage place. Following these steps will ensure you receive the most out of the battery life.
My battery is stuck in my tool. How do I get it out?
60V/ 80V Products: To remove the battery, push and hold the battery release button. Then, pull the battery pack straight out. In some cases, if the springs underneath have gotten locked down you might have to give a small push to the top of the battery to re-engage them to help the battery pop up. The battery pack fits snugly into the product to prevent accidental dislodging while in use; it may require a strong pull to remove. Before use, be sure that the rails on the battery and product are free of debris that could cause the battery to get stuck. 24V/ 40V Products: To remove the battery, press the latch button on the battery pack down and hold. Pull the battery pack out of the handle. The battery pack fits snugly into the product to prevent accidental dislodging while in use; it may require a strong pull to remove. Before use, be sure that the rails on the battery and product are free of debris that could cause the battery to get stuck.
How do I check the charge on my battery?
Press the battery capacity indicator (BCI) button located at the end of the battery. The lights will illuminate according to the battery capacity level. Please note this switch does require a firm direct push using the tip of your finger. If the button is not being fully engaged, the lights will not activate. Please also be advised the lights only stay on for a few seconds and will automatically turn off. Another reason the lights will not power on is if the battery is completely depleted of power and needs to be charged.
Can I use any Greenworks battery in any Greenworks tool?
Our batteries are interchangeable with tools that are of the same voltage platform only. The difference between batteries of the same voltage is the ampere-hour (Ah) rating. The higher the ampere-hour (Ah) rating on the battery is the more run time it has to offer.
Are there certain tools that can’t accept all same voltage batteries?
There are a few exceptions. • Our 80V 20” snow thrower models 2600402 / 2605202 / 2601302 manufactured prior to September of 2017 can only use 2.0Ah or 2.5Ah battery models. • Our 60V 8.0Ah battery model 2957102 cannot be used in the following tools due to the height: dual-port lawnmowers, pressure washers, or the wet/dry vacuum.
Do all batteries of the same voltage use the same charger?
Yes, they do. Each product line has designated charger models that can charge all batteries in that voltage platform, no matter the Ah rating.
The charger indicates that my battery is fully charged but I was just using it and it depleted. Why isn’t it charging?
Putting a battery that was just in use onto the charger often results in a false full charge signal. Remove the battery from the charger and allow it to rest in a room temperature area for approximately 10-15 minutes before charging.
My charger is flashing red when I engage my battery. Why is this happening?
When the battery is inserted into the charger and the status LED blinks red, remove the battery from the charger for 1 minute, then reinsert. If the status LED blinks green, then the battery is properly charging. If the status LED is still blinking red, remove the battery and unplug the charger for 1 minute. After 1 minute, plug in the charger and reinsert the battery. If the status LED blinks green, then the battery is properly charging. If the status LED is still blinking red, then this likely indicates an issue with the battery or charger and should be taken care of either with our warranty team or by means of replacement.
My charger has a solid red light on it when I engage my battery. What is happening?
This typically indicates that the battery is at the wrong temperature to be charged. Allow the battery and charger to rest indoors at room temperature until they are no longer hot/cold and attempt charging again.
Are your chargers made for 220V or 120V outlets?
Greenworks chargers sold in the USA and Canada are designed for use on 120V outlets only.

How well does the riding mower mulch grass?
These mowers are excellent for mulching grass. For the best results, remove the side discharge chute and lower the deck to contain the grass, allowing it to be properly mulched.
Is a Zero-Turn mower easy to drive?
The ease of driving a zero-turn mower depends on the operator's experience. It may take some time to learn, as the mower uses two separate motors and handlebars instead of a traditional steering wheel. We recommend checking out our YouTube videos for helpful tutorials: Greenworks YouTube Channel.
What is the required maintenance for a Zero-Turn mower?
For regular maintenance such as blade cleaning and oil checking, please consult your instruction manual for guidance.
What riding mower deck size do I need?
• For yards up to 2 acres: 21” to 52” cutting width • For yards up to 1-3 acres: 52” to 54” cutting width • For yards up to 3-4 acres: 54” to 60” cutting width • For yards 4 acres and above: 60” or greater cutting width
Is the mower attachment capable of towing items?
These mowers are attachment-capable and can tow items like a yard sweeper or wheelbarrow. The maximum towing capacity is 350 lbs.
Can the mower cut in reverse?
The mower will only cut in reverse when the reverse button is pressed and held. This safety feature ensures safe operation while reversing.

A few problems upon delivery

I placed the order from the Greenworks main site on 6/7 and did not receive shipment until 6/18. I had the unit delivered to my home and there was damage to the front green nose cone. It appeared to have taken impact damage and the tabs are bent/ broken to an extent the cone does not seat properly and is lose. The shipping crate is a solid metal frame but does not offer and protection on the top. All 6 battery’s came fully charged when checking each individually but with all 6 fully and properly locked into place the mower main battery lcd gauge only shows a 25% average charge. Either the gauge is broke or not reading/recognizing all battery’s connected. Mower does power on and run properly otherwise. The unit itself feels great to sit on and ride although as a taller guy my knees almost touch the steering wheel similar to all riding mowers. The seat is comfortable and the arm rests are a welcome feature. Controls are simple and easily reachable. The acceleration is great and the motors as quiet as advertised. Unit came with all necessary tools for assembly which was quick and painless. It comes with a nice battery carry case as well. So to sum up I like the unit and the shipping damage is probably not Greenworks fault but the battery issue is worrisome. Hopefully customer service can help me out with theses issues.

60V Zero Turn w/bagger

I have only so far taken the mower out on its maiden voyage but so far it’s very quick to assemble learn and operate. This mower went through the absolute ringer on its first go-around; 2 months of unabated growth after a heavy rainy season prevented me from mowing any time I was home from traveling. It handled everything I threw at it even things it shouldn’t have had to put up with. Not that I’d recommend using it as a wood-chipper (unsafe don’t do on purpose) I did go over several downed tree limbs that I couldn’t see due to the overgrowth; it severed most of them into pieces and simply ran over the rest.Tackling hills does take some getting used to and exercise with safety but it handled my heavily wooded property with many slopes like a champion. The one negative is once again rider last mile is definitely the crutch of the system. The green works site advertised a delivery rate of 5 business days; it took a month to receive. Additionally rider -for the third consecutive time- did not deliver on the day they were scheduled. This time they showed up a day early & delivered in a heavy rainstorm while I was not home to receive. They at least had the courtesy to wrap the unit in plastic but it still got quite wet. That said green works customer service has always worked with me.Green works tools: 10/10Green works customer service: 9/10Rider last mile: 2/10

Great lawnmower and customer service

At first we were concerned in that the blades didn’t turn upon engagement of the switch. After working with customer service it now is fully functional.

Great product

Delivery was great. It was easy to assemble. It runs great and is perfect for the size of lawn I purchased it for. I'm still getting a feel for the steering. It's a bit slow in reverse. I recommend this mower.

Great power and control zero turn mower.

This was my second time purchasing this mower. I liked so much the 1st time that I bought another for our second home. Excellent power and turning capabilities along with long lasting batteries to get the job done. Fast chargers help to get you powered up fast. Cleaning it up is a breeze and the ride is super comfortable.

Bumpy mower

Had this for a few months. It cuts pretty good but the steering is terrible and such a harsh ride. First week one of the chargers went bad and a battery display (charge percentage) quit working. Customer service was nonexistent .

So far great!

I've had this mower about 2 months now and so far I'm very happy with it. No exhaust smells no gas no spark plugs etc. Just keep it clean and go! Cuts really nicely my yard looks like it's been professionally done. Super power so be aware of that when driving it! Don't run into things! Also really quiet for a mower even with the blades on high. The trunk on the back has been super handy for hauling smaller things around the yard and if needed I can still fit a 5 gallon bucket between my feet to haul more items (not that I recommend you do this). I'm making a point to care for the batteries as those are quite expensive and I try to bring them inside each time so they don't sit in the hot garage. I've never used a zero turn so my first mow with it was a bit of a challenge but by time I had about 4 mows in I have it down. My initial experience with this mower has been great. I hope it remains that way!

Can mow for an hour at a time

Really solid unit seat is much better than my zero turn mtd. the front steering however isnt as solid as i would have liked. Front end wobbles and the steering wheel is pretty slippery. Will see how well it holds up over time vs my mtd. Pros - long run time -surprisingly solid build -Fast like a go cart! -cruise controlnegatives -turns of when reversing/ mowing -makes tight turns but cant compete with mtd due to first neg. -One battery came with loose plastic inside(cant be good) -came delivered in no crate (may not be greenworks fault). Overall I would give 3.5 stars but if everything would have went right it would be 4.5. Really cool unit I intend to keep.

Quiet perfect grass cutting

Have now used my zero turn mower 6 times and love it. So easy too use compared to my old gas powered Honda tractor. I have 3/4 acre of lawn that I mow in 2/3 the time and only use 20% of the battery charge. So nice to turn blades on and off instantly with a switch and change mowing hight with no efort. Have to mention how quiet it is and has a very comfortable seat.

Great mower but mulching attachment was difficult to install

The mower came fully assembled when delivered by the freight company but it was configured for side discharge. The mulching attachment was very difficult to install. Otherwise the mower works great.

Simple clean effective

I bought this 2 months ago and have mowed 3 times. I was unsure about electric at first but it easily handles my 1 acre lot. Putting the parts on from delivery took about 30 minutes the hardest part is getting rid of the metal pallet it ships on. It’s quiet really fast and never smells like Gas! No issues so far.

Save time money and effort with this.

After decades of gas powered mower issues like bad gas and bad carburetor and oil leaks and smoke noise not starting belts popping off running out of gas finally this fixed all that and more. Full batteries will mow our place 5+ times and a couple hours fills them pack up. The mower is completely quiet until the blades are engaged but still far quieter than our old mower. Worth every penny.

So far it is a good mower.

So far it is a good mower. My problem is that I purchased ot through Walmart. It was not until after I received the mower and registered it on the Greenwork website that I found out I would not receive any reward points. No points for a $4000 purchase just because I bought it from Walmart. Also I could not pick it up at Walmart because they had to order it from Greenworks. So Walmart became the middleman that canceled my Greenworks reward points. Had I only known!

Wrong Item Sent Could not contact Greenworks staff

I bought the item on the Greenworks website end of June. It took over 30 days to receive it. I was disappointed at the length of time but understood since they use Ryder for the last mile. Well the item was delivered today July 30 by Ryder beautifully packaged and delivered with care. I could not see the item due to the amount of green packaging wrapped around the metal crate. They left and I got to opening up the crate only to find out they had shipped me the 30in not the 42in as I had purchased and paid for. When Ryder was here I had verified the shipping sticker was correct and it was but the item inside the crate and the item on listed on the sticker on the metal create was wrong. Then to top it off I tried calling Greenworks only to encounter an automated message telling me they are on holiday. I had to take time off of work for this deliver and now will need to take more of my time to spend who knows how long on a call with Greenworks to see how this will be rectified. Very unhappy customer right now. If they charge me for returning the wrong item they sent I will be filling a complaint with the better business bureau. If they do the right thing and help correct their error I will update or remove this review.

our lawn never looked better :)

hi i have mowed our farm three times with this tractor. we are very impressed with how well the mower cuts and how fast the chargers work; after 9 years with a JD X304 our lawn has never looked better; we sold the JD last week. the 4 batteries enable us to mow about 3/4ths of the lawn with greater than 50% left; I plan to only take the batteries to above 50%. no more oil fuel filters gasoline plugs plug wires coils starting issues... we needed help pairing our tractor to the app; support was very helpful and knowledgeable. as a techy I like how for health monitoring the app Bluetooth pairs with each battery and the mower.

Defective riding mower

Worst customer service. They sent me a defective mower. The mower stops working at 84%. Right out of the box and i can’t return it. All sales are final. I have to drive it 3 hours to get it repaired at my own expense. I want to own this company that sells people machines that don’t need to work
