FAQs

What soap should I use with my pressure washer?
We only recommend using a designated pressure washer soap. You can use any preferred brand of pressure washer soap, if it does not contain any harsh chemicals such as bleach, alkaline or ammonia. Be sure to follow the directions on the pressure washer soap for whether or not it needs to be diluted; soap should be a watery consistency.
Does my water source have to be of a certain PSI to run the unit properly?
Yes, the ideal input pressure is 60 PSI. However, the unit tolerates between 45-75PSI. If the inlet pressure is below 45 PSI, it will lead to a pressure drop and the machine will not pressurize properly. This often causes the unit to vibrate and sputter. Any higher than 75PSI unit may receive internal damage from over pressure, breaching seals, triggering the thermal valve etc. If the unit does not have the correct PSI the unit will not run correctly, and the motor can be damaged.
Can I switch between applying soap and rinsing?
Yes, you can! For units with an onboard soap tank: Soap can only be applied with the black soap nozzle, simply switch it out for the appropriate nozzle that you require for rinsing. Allow a few seconds for the soap suds to clear from the line, and then you will have clean water. For units that use a soap bottle: To rinse, you will have to remove the soap bottle and reattach the wand with the appropriate nozzle that you require for rinsing.
How do I winterize my pressure washer?
The optimum procedure advises using a pressure washer pump saver that can be purchased at most hardware stores. Please see the optimum winterizing procedure below. • Disconnect all water connections (garden hose). • Turn on the machine for a few seconds, until the remaining water in the pump exits. Turn off immediately. • Use a pressure washer pump saver - follow instructions provided on pump saver • Roll up electrical cord and hose neatly, making sure there are no kinks. Ideally, we advise storing the machine and accessories in a room that does not reach freezing temperatures. Do not store near the furnace or other sources of heat as it may dry out the pump seals.
Can I use hot water with your pressure washers?
We offer cold water pressure washers only; the maximum inlet water temperature should not exceed 104 °F (40 °C).
What size are the threaded fittings on the pressure washer?
All threaded connections on our pressure washers are an M22 14mm fitting.
What size are the nozzles?
Our pressure washers use ¼” quick connect nozzles.
My pressure washer will not start, or I have started the pressure washer, but it keeps shutting off, pulsating or does not reach high pressure. What’s wrong?
There are a few factors that could cause these reactions such as excess air in the pump or a clogged/faulty nozzle. See all troubleshooting options below. Cleaning Obstructed Nozzles Over time with use, the pressure washer nozzles may collect dust, dirt, and calcium build-up which as a result cause the pressure washer to malfunction while in use. To clean nozzles soak them in a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and warm water for a minimum of 15 minutes. Then proceed to poke your nozzle cleaning tool or paper clip through the end of the nozzle hole to poke out any debris. After you have done this, rinse them with warm water. Purge Air from Pressure Washer Set up the unit as per usual and ensure you are not using an extension cord. Remove any nozzle that may be connected at the end of the wand. Make sure that you have a green light on the GFCI on the power cord. Turn your garden hose on but leave the pressure washer turned OFF. With the pressure washer turned off, squeeze on the trigger for about 3 minutes – allowing the water to run through the unit at no pressure. In doing so, you are bleeding the unit out of any air that may be stuck in the pump. After 3 minutes, turn the unit on. Reinstall one of your clean nozzles and continue using the unit. At this stage, if the unit shuts off when a nozzle is installed be sure to try all nozzles. A faulty nozzle may cause the unit to shut down. Additional components to check: • Ensure a nozzle is connected. Be sure to try all nozzles. • Ensure that the water source is fully opened and is at least 60PSI (Refer to: Does my water source have to be of a certain PSI to run the unit properly?) • Check that there is at least 10' of unrestricted garden hose between the hose connection and the unit, any kinks will prevent the flow of water from going into the unit and prevent proper pressure. • For best results, use a 1” (25 mm) or 5/8” (16 mm) garden hose. • Check that the water inlet is not clogged. Disconnect the garden hose, remove the filter and rinse with warm water. • That you are using a working outlet. Be sure to try more than one!
Can I use a longer high-pressure hose?
While you may use a longer high-pressure hose, please note that the pressure will drop.
Do you offer extension wands?
Unfortunately, we do not offer extension wands. While you may find something compatible with another brand, know that the pressure could be affected.
What uses are the different nozzles ideal for?
0° - Red nozzle: This nozzle is typically used for removing tough stains like rust and debris from concrete and metal. You can also use it for removing caked on mud from heavy construction, farm, or lawn equipment. Do not use this nozzle on wood or home siding or for washing a car because this stream is very strong and powerful and can damage a soft surface. 15° – Yellow nozzle: The yellow pressure washer tip provides high versatility with its 15-degree angle tip. Referred to as the washing tip, because it provides adequate pressure to remove dirt from surfaces but is designed to not damage many surfaces. This pressure washer tip is designed for “sweeping” foliage or debris given its wide angle. This tip is versatile due to its wide area of cleaning and strong pressure application. 25° – Green nozzle: The green colored, 25-degree nozzle is best used to sweep away dirt and mud. Use it to sweep away leaves from decks, driveways, and sidewalks. It can also be used for removing light mildew stains and removing algae and bacteria build up from pools. 40° – White nozzle: The white 40-degree tip, referred to as the “fan” tip creates the widest area of cleaning with relatively low pressure. This pressure washer tip is best used for light or delicate cleaning applications. It is recommended for light cleaning on wood decks and other soft or delicate surfaces. 75° Soap – Black nozzle: The black colored nozzle is a low-pressure detergent nozzle. You use this when applying your preferred detergent for your cleaning projects. Turbo Nozzle: The nozzle rotates in a zero-to-15-degree spray pattern in a circular motion to break down tough dirt and grime. The spray pattern can cover area of 4 to 8 inches wide, depending on a distance between the tip and the surface being cleaned.

Love this pressure

We bought one if these a months ago and it's been great. Purchased a second to give as a Christmas gift. It's very easy to use and we prefer electric over gas - it's much quieter and it's easy to plug in and go. We find that 1500-1800PSI is perfect for cleaning around our house. We've used it on a concrete patio a plastic shed and a wood deck (to clean before painting it).

Broke/Leaking the first time I tried to use it.

I bought this pressure washer in March 2021 directly from the greenworks website. The first time I tried to use it in May 2021 it was pouring water from inside the pressure washer. I have tried to call greenworks and sat on hold trying to reach their customer service for anywhere from 2-4 hours approximately 8 times and have only reached one gentleman one time. He indicated that he would send me a replacement that I would received in 7-14 days back in May 2021 which I have never received. As of today July 6 2021 I have emailed him 3 times over the last two weeks and have not received any response. I have also called the customer service number again two times and sat on hold for over two hours each time to ultimately never be able to get to speak to anyone. All I wanted is to get what I paid for and some sort of a timely replacement for the original defective pressure washer. I am extremely frustrated with this and would not recommend that anyone purchase a greenworks product.

Lightweight but Mighty

I’ve owned numerous pressure washers but the Greenworks 1700 PSI is the best yet. It is light enough that my wife is able to use it without effort. Does an excellent job.I will consider buying other Greenworks products.

Very Disappointed

We bought this a month ago and it did our house fine with no issues. A couple weeks later we attempted our deck and couldn’t even finish it. It started producing an electrical smell and the unit was very hot after 30 minutes. It was placed back in the box and stored property after the first use. We will be returning it and will also have to buy another pressure washer or borrow one just to finish our deck.

Money well spent

I am so pleased with this pressure washer! It’s just enough power to clean the deck siding outdoor rugs and furniture etc. and so much quieter than a gas powered washer

One Outraged Customer

The product is your 1700 PSI Electric Pressure Washer GPW1704.I used the Washer to clean my driveway pavers yesterday. After pausing for lunch I attempted to resume my work. The Washer would not start. This was extremely frustrating.I reviewed your Troubleshooting recommendations in your manual. None of that helped.I phoned your Customer Service. I was told I was number 252 in the queue. That's quite unbelievable.I read the questions and answers on your web site.Today I followed your written guidelines to purge the Washer.I set up everything followed your insructions and still the Washer would not start.I phoned Customer Service again. I was told that I was number 54 in the queue!I have wasted a tremendous amount of my limited time trying to get this piece of equipmet to work.Right now I am outraged by all of this.

Piece of Trash

It should be out of stock. Complete piece of trash. Used it once last summer. Brought it out again today and was completely useless. No water from the gun and the motor died. Worst piece of equipment I've purchased in 40+ years. Will never purchase another piece of Greenworks equipment. Actually a zero star rating.

Disappointing

This product worked once but then does not work after the initial use. After securing every connection fully turning on the water supply and then we plugging the unit into the outlet and powering the unit on the pressure washer powers on the motor runs for approximately five seconds and then the unit frustratingly shuts off. I ensured every connection is secured and the unit is receiving ample water supply but the unit will not respond and refuses to stay on longer than five seconds. I then tried to call the Customer Service 1-800 line and found out I was 64th in the waiting queue. Unfortunately it seems as though other people may be having similar issues. Can someone please help how I can possibly force the unit stay on longer than the aforementioned five seconds?

Great for auto washing & compact for easy storage.

Well worth the money in my opinion. I purchased this 6 months ago & satisfied with the performance for what I use it for. Used to wash 3-7 vehicles weekly. In addition I purchased a 25 foot hose extension so I don't have to move it around & also quick disconnect fittings to cut back on the wear of connections.Tips: Always prime the pressure washer prior to turning on the motor. Make sure all of your fittings are secure to prevent the unit from pulling air. Loose fittings will also make the motor run when not in use. I used plumbers tape to when attaching the quick disconnects. You can't always judge a product based strictly on negative reviews.

Long Term Durability Bad!

I got this unit back in September 2018. It was working great for the last couple years. I really enjoyed it as it was easy to use portable and light. Also got good pressure out of a small unit. Unfortunately recently I went to plug it in and it started making a bunch of clicking noises in the plug. I tried several other outlets extension cords no extension cords etc. Did the same thing on all of them. The unit will not turn on now. I tried resetting the trip on the plug and nothing still. I also reached out to customer service and did not hear back. I really did like this when it was working I have several other Greenworks products. So I'm extra disappointed when this broke. Hopefully it can be resolved soon!

Wand Gushing Water!!!

I bought this in January 2020 and have used it about 15 times. Yesterday the wand started spewing water out of the frame of the wand. I have tried calling but can’t seem to get anyone on the line. I’ve sent an email hopefully someone will contact me back.

Slowly falls apart

Within the first few uses the turbo tip quite spinning and didn't not act as it first did. Then within a month the device won't come on at all. I reset the fuse on the plug and it immediately re-trips. The machine is pretty much useless now. Waste of money for sure.

Power issues

Have had this washer for a few years but it only worked well the 1st year. Whatever outlet I plugged it into the unit never passed the test. Also it Isn’t supposed to be plugged in with an extension cord. Then the cord itself should be longer than 35 feet. Very disappointed in this product.

Great While it Worked

I bought the washer just under a year ago from Lowe’s and it worked well for the summer perfect for washing cars and light duty house work. Unfortunately after time it does not work as well. The machine turns on and off while washing and won’t run at all other times. I will most likely just break down and buy another since I like the first one.

So many uses!

I bought this pressure washer on a recommendation and am so glad I did. It’s easy to use and works well. I cleaned a wooden ramp vinyl fence painted shingles brick steps. Excellent value for the money.

Very Good with one small problem

It does exactly what I need it to i.e. clean my pool deck. I have just one problem. The hose and power cord are not long enough.

WOW!

I bought this today on sale at Lowe's for $99.99 as part of a Mother's Day Sale. This is my first GreenWorks Product. At first glance this was super easy to set up. I used it for roughly 1.5 hours on siding on my building. I used the lowest pressure nozzle it came with and it did very well. Definitely pleased with how quiet it is as well as it was able to remove lots of dirt & grime. 7 years of build up actually. Out of curiosity I decided to hit my driveway which has not been pressure washed ever. The driveway is 38 years old. I was AMAZED at how well it cleaned the driveway using the high pressure nozzle it came with. There are a lot of bad reviews on here but so far I am pleased. I plan to use this on my entire 60 foot long driveway. I have one con: I did notice when I let go of the trigger twice out of maybe 30 times in 1.5 hours; the motor started running after I let go for about 3 seconds but then it stopped. That is why I am giving it 5 stars with 4 stars on durability because I feel that could present an issue eventually. I will update my review if I have any issues but for now I am very impressed with the power of this little machine; especially for the price point.

Garbage

Only buy if you plan on using it a hand full of times. It’s not worth the space it takes up in your garbage can after you use it 5 times. Cross threading fittings. Burning smell. Won’t shut off. Poor customer service. Save yourself the trouble and buy from someone else.

Third use and won't work.

I bought this a little over a week ago. This is the third time I've used it and it won't work. 0 pressure. I checked the outlets to make sure it wasn't the power source it wasn't that simply won't work.
