FAQs

What oil do I use with my chainsaw?
Our units use a standard bar and chain oil. You can purchase this from your local hardware store; no specific brand name is required
Why is my chainsaw leaking oil?
All chainsaws will slowly “leak” oil in storage (mostly from it seeping off the chain). To prevent excessive leakage, store with as little oil left in the reservoir as possible, lay the chainsaw flat with a rag beneath it and the pole saw upright with the motor head at the top. During first use, operators should only fill the reservoir to roughly half full and check periodically to see if it needs to be refilled. Eventually, you will become accustomed to the amount of oil required for each job. This procedure will make it easier to store the unit as oil free as possible and reduce oil run off.
How large of a branch/log can I cut?
If you are looking to cut logs with one pass, the log needs to be about 2" smaller than the bar. However, there are many techniques to use a chainsaw for larger cuts.
What is the run time?
The run time of a chainsaw is measured in cuts per charge. The number of cuts per charge or “run time” that you receive would depend on the load acting on the saw (i.e., the thickness and type of wood being cut) as the chainsaw would use more battery power on tougher and thick objects being cut.
How do I know if my chain is tensioned enough?
Chains should be tensioned before use. Check intermittently throughout each chore to make sure the chain is kept properly tensioned. A correctly tensioned chain should only pull away from the bar enough to fit a dime between the teeth and the bar. ***DO NOT TENSION A CHAIN AFTER YOU HAVE FINSHED USING THE TOOL. HOT METAL EXPANDS. IF THE CHAIN NEEDS TENSIONED WHEN HOT, THEN ALLOW TO COOL, THE CONTRACTING METAL COULD POTENTIALLY DAMAGE THE CHAIN, THE BAR AND EVEN THE UNIT. WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT USE (OR AT LEAST UNTIL COOLED) BEFORE TENSIONING***
Can I use another brand of chain?
Yes, however, it must match the specifications of the original chain (gauge, pitch, and drive links). These specifications my be found inside of your owner’s manual.
What file size do I use to sharpen the chain?
Our chains may be sharpened using a 5/32” round file.
Why isn’t my chain cutting?
If the wood is burning/smoking, this indicates that the chain is on backwards. Another reason could be that the chain is dull and needs to be sharpened or replaced. Replace the chain if: • The length of the cutting edges is less than 5 mm. • There is too much space between the drive links and the rivets. • The cut speed is slow • Sharpening the chain many times but it does not increase the cutting speed.
Why does my chain keep falling off?
Chainsaw chains can come off due to multiple reasons such as worn-down bars, worn-down sprockets, and wrongly set chain tension. Please check the chain tension and condition of all parts prior to using. If anything is worn or damaged, replace parts before using again. Replace the bar if: • the groove is not fit with the height of the drive links (which must never touch the bottom). • the inside of the guide bar is worn and make the chain lean to one side.

Customers praised this 60V battery-powered chainsaw for its "plenty of power," ease of use, and instant startup. Many said it rivals gas models while being quieter and hassle-free. However, some reported issues with oil leaking during storage, chain tension requiring frequent adjustment, overheating, and defective units arriving.

Still going

I have had my chainsaw for over 7 years now. About time to replace the bar I think. Had original battery until a month ago. Left out on the rain shake battery and you could here water slosh around. Dried out but a get the red light. Battery still has full power.

There is a loose part or piece broken off inside the chainsaw before I even had a chance to use it.

Don’t buy

Lousy product lousy customer service. Bought some spare parts as the junk broke within a month and realized I’d ordered for the wrong model. I got charged shipping to my house and then shipping for the return. Tried to cancel within 2 hours and before the product had shipped and was told there is a 30 minute window. Ridiculous won’t buy again neither should you

Another great purchase

Started with 12 chainsaw to help my husband with clean-up. He now uses mine opting to leave the heavy gas powered one unused! Time for a bigger one. Easy to use and gets the job done. Added to my snowblower tiller pruning saw hedge trimmer cordless vacuum edger leaf blower two battery powered lawnmowers (got one as a replacement but the old one works fine so kept it anyway) and now looking at the hand tools….. Have yet to be disappointed!

Love it

I have a small yard and this mower is perfect. It is lightweight but definitely powerful enough to mow my thick grass. The battery is very clean and convenient no Gass and oil mess

Best battery powered tools

Love the chainsaw. Have used trimmer and blower from Greenworks and always working great. Quality tools. Great service through online also.

Good value

Seems to do the job well. Chain needs to be more loose than I would expect. If it’s even a little too tight it doesn’t run. Otherwise works well

Cuts effortlessly

Chainsaw is easy to handle even for a left-hander like me. Chain oil does not leak so far.

Great saw! Plenty of power.

I bought this saw for minor clean up of limbs and brush. It is very powerful and easy to operate. I like it because it simple to use add a battery and go to work. I have other gas chain saws and after you set them up and gas mixed gas and oil you could have been done. I have not cut anything larger then a few limbs but it has plenty of power.

Easy to assembly and cuts great. Makes it easy to quickly address any large fallen limbs that need to be cut and removed

Excellent

Purchased 16 bar with 60v battery. Very convenient to use. Purchased 60v as I also have 60 self propelled lawnmower. Rating would have been a '5' however discerning that when saw is stored the chain bar oil leaks-yes cap is securely fastened. How can saw be stored without leaking oil.

Durability

I bought this chainsaw for some small jobs in the back yard. This machine is great. cuts smooth. doesn't throw the chain off. Powerful battery supplied motor I couldn't be happier.

Works well but leaks oil

I have two of these and also a two 60 watt blowers. All work well. But the chainsaws leak oil.

[Almost] Perfect chainsaw

This review is for a slightly modified version of this saw. I swapped the 18 bar and chain to this saw from day 1 and put it into hard use immediately. This chainsaw does everything you could want one to do and does it exceptionally well. The 60V size is perfect easy to handle and the fact that you can do the same work as a 40cc gasoline saw but without having to worry with starting maintenance etc. is a miracle. After 25 years of using other chainsaws this is finally the best one I've ever used. The only thing that keeps it from being absolutely perfect is the limitation of not using it in the rain. Likewise lack of water resistance makes cleaning it somewhat more challenging.

Well built machine but

Very solid high quality materials. But noticeably heavier than gas in the same size. Ok for small projects but weight can ware you out. Be prepared to swap out battery often.

I love this product!

I love this whole line of products. I have the edger chain saw pole saw weed eater and the leaf blower. I cannot praise them enough. I keep my batteries charged and they are so easy to use. Very efficient and I love how quiet they are. I use the blower every day and have had it for 5 years no issues at all

Great Home Owner Chsin Saw

I bought this16 inch chain saw to replace an old 2 cycle saw I owned. After purchasing a Greenworks Weed Wacker a few years ago I really love these products. They are light weigh easy to use quiet and do all the things my old 2 cycle units did without needing to mix gas. Both items are perfect for a home owner like myself.

Really cuts

Have used the saw a couple of times for smaller cleanup but will be going at some bigger wood soon. Like the way it cuts plenty of torque

Excellent chainsaw

I bought this for my husband to replace the gas chainsaw he has. Excellent cutting power and battery life. It's easier than the gas one and you don't have to mix the Smelly oil and gas.

I won't go gas again!

This simple switch to a cordless battery operated chainsaw was supposed to be a supplement to my existing gas-powered saws. It was supposed to be a saw that my girlfriend could wield safely and without struggling to start as with the gas models. What a surprise that I not only began using it myself but I used ONLY it to cut my entire year of firewood (I burn wood for my only heat source) including the thicker trees and all kindling as well. I live in a solar-powered home that is off-grid and doesn't have many options due to my location and distance from town/anywhere else. Not only does the saw cut through trees as efficiently as my gas-powered but the safety features make my nerves rest way more than ever due to the automated shut off when the trigger is disengaged. With the gas saw they might stop or they might keep spinning while this saw is done when your finger says it is done. I can't say enough about this company and this saw except to say that I am actively changing all of my fossil tools to Greenworks starting with a hand drill and lawn mower. I will review the mower once the snow finally leaves our northern lawn. I won't stop until I am completely Green and I know I will have no regrets other than not making this switch years ago. LOVE Greenworks!!

Very happy

I have had a few chain saws but this greenworks 60v 16 chainsaw is easily the easiest I have ever used. It has cut through everything the gas saws do. It is quicker quieter and pushbutton easy to use. I also have greenworks pressure washer string trimmer and leaf blower. I am a big fan and will continue to give greenworks my business

Disappointed...overheated fast!

Bought this to use clearing out small trees and overgrowth. After 20 minutes of use mainly cutting up larger branches it overheated! Let set for 30 minutes now it doesn't run.

Reliable and powerful saw

I bought this chainsaw to supplement a 14 inch Greenorks saw that I purchased three years ago. The new saw like my old one has been very reliable and makes quick work of yard maintenance of my rural property. This saw is well balanced and does a tremendous amount of work before the battery is depleted. My only suggestion is this saw should have a chain adjustment on the side like the 1 inch mode. I switched to Greenwoks electric saws after year of frustration ownership of hard to start Still and Homelight saws and have never regretted the switch. The Greenworks saws are a great value in my experience. They have an enthusiastic fan with me!

Easy to use

Very pleased with the performance and ease of use. I already have 3 batteries that I use with other Greenworks tools I own so it was cost effective to purchase only the tool this time. I was also pleased with how easy it was to clean after use

Mostly positive one negative

Used this 1st time for brush and medium fallen walnut branch:Pros: handled light and medium brush tough walnut w/ ease.Good balance on-off ease safety features. Very handy.Con: oil reservoir needs a simple redesign specifically raising the lip so the closure plug does not intrude into the resrvoir itself. As is you fill the reservoir re-insert the plug and it overflows. Really annoying and messy and unnecessary.Overall I really like this unit highly recommend.
